email issues

There were various questions/issues on the emails I’ve seen  (sorry this is long but though better long than 6 separate mails)

1)    Next FOL meeting planned for this Tuesday 3rd 6pm upstairs in Monkseaton Arms (getting it for free).  Me, Rebecca, Louise and Georgia confirmed so far. Would be great to see a few new faces. That said if everyone who is willing to help comes we are going to have a space problem. If you let me know if you can come & be a bit more involved in the planning that would be great - we can then cascade out all the "to dos" to everyone else afterwards??

2)    Revised fair plan – Rocklifffe have offered us their premises for free – They are looking at possible dates. Hope to know soon. Have said we need a couple of weeks to plan / get publicity etc – someone mentioned press... I agree.  But once we get to summer holidays folk start disappearing – gives us a 2 weekend window. Will update you as soon as I get word from them.

3)    Stuff/stock for fair – Most has survived..not all. Mobile had about inch or so of water so stuff on floor damaged. Loads of chocolatesLbut all bottles / wine etc fine J Waiting to see when we can get in to get it all out of school before they start stripping out. Will let you know when....  Will have to share storage around – can discuss on Tuesday.

4)    Gifts for teachers as we are not at school – My suggestion here would be to get together with your own classes/parents. Hopefully our kids will be getting educated “somewhere” in the last couple of weeks.

5)    Donations -  “Just giving” has been looked and ruled out (by school.) That just leaves getting cash into the FOL bank.  I suggest that we all keep our donations in our pockets and at the fair we have a big bucket marked DONATIONS or you buy a load more raffle tickets. That way we don’t have money floating around and there will be a big cash banking after the fair.  Any other events that happen run by whoever can be banked as we go.

6)    Facebook – Appreciate that not everyone is on. But the “event” set up now has 149 people attached to it and it started with about 40.  All can be contacted easily via mobiles. Can’t knock it really. This email list is our only “email” communication method.   If you know of anyone who wants to be added let me know.  If text2parents is not up, texting is not so easy, manual texts don’t really work for the FOL stuff as takes longer.  (Whilst I appreciate the cascade thing is working canny.)  Although the event on fb is set up as the fair – posted comments on it are visible to all 149 so we can communicate re other things on there as well.

7)    Link - http://www.facebook.com/events/344403188962047/    Hope this works.

8)    Other fb Group – Langley Mums – This is a group rather than an event so potentially great for fb commnication. It seems to be closed group. I found it after searching “Langley mums” but can’t join myself?? Help!! Can’t see any harm myself – the more the merrier as long as we channel through FOL so we can keep school informed of what we are doing / keep track of any money.  Bear in mind that we have historically discussed “new” events with school before launching them.

9)    Bag Pack – Do we “need” T shirts ?? Surely the kids (smaller the better) would wear school  uniform and adults could perhaps wear jeans / white top ???  Just then need buckets with pictures on and maybe a display board showing the damage to tug at shoppers heartstrings.

I am happy to continue sitting in this “coordinate the emails/fb etc” role  - can discuss at meeting if necessary.
Think that’s all – hope to get back to you v soon re Fair date.
I haven’t put all this on the fb event yet – just about the meeting for now till we get something concrete re dates.
Thanks
Julie

28 June 2012 - Deluge and devastation

** Books afloat in flooded school **
Transport, power and schools are expected to be disrupted for a second day after storms caused flash floods across parts of the UK.

A month of rain falls in just 2 hours - Tyneside hit by huge storms and flash floods sending whole area into chaos.
Flooding follows as drains unable to cope with sheer volume of rainfall - roads, properties, rail and Langley First School overwhelmed and devastated by flood water.
